Haldi, Mehendi & Sangeet Photography in Dhanori

The functions before the wedding, held in Dhanori podiums, courtyards and clubhouses — semi-public spaces that belong to everyone in the building.

Shared with actual neighbours

A haldi in a society courtyard has an audience that did not RSVP.

These functions are outdoor and messy by nature, and in a residential complex they happen in a space other people are also using.

That produces some of the best frames of the whole week — children from other flats drifting in, neighbours watching from balconies, people joining because they happened to be passing. It is a genuinely different atmosphere from a hired venue and worth photographing rather than cropping out.

It also means being conscious of what is in frame. Not everyone in a shared space has agreed to be photographed, and there is a difference between a warm wide shot of a courtyard and a portrait of a stranger on their own balcony. We keep to the former.

Practically the three functions still break in three ways — haldi bright and messy, mehendi slow and detailed, sangeet dark and loud — and they are far easier planned as one block across consecutive days than as three bookings.

Practically, a courtyard function also needs somewhere for people to wash, and it is worth deciding where before the haldi rather than during it.

That sounds unrelated to photography, but a queue at a single tap is where thirty minutes disappears.

The functions that run smoothly are almost always the ones where somebody thought about it beforehand.

Getting ready

A courtyard shared with neighbours

Tell us roughly how many people and which shared space you are using, so we can plan around the actual area rather than an assumption.

For haldi, tell guests to wear something they do not mind ruining.

Check whether the society needs notice for use of a common area, and tell us the answer.

Planning it

What we plan

Which space, and whether it is genuinely yours for the duration.

Whether the three run consecutively.

And how you feel about neighbours appearing in wide frames.

Ours is in the society courtyard.

It works well and the atmosphere is usually better than a hired space. Tell us the area and roughly how many people and we will plan around it.

Will neighbours end up in our photographs?

In wide shots of a shared space, sometimes — that is part of what the occasion looks like. We do not take portraits of people who have not agreed to be photographed.

Can you cover all three functions?

Yes, and as one block. They usually run on consecutive days and planning them together works considerably better.

Which areas near Dhanori do you cover?

Dhanori, Lohegaon, Vishrantwadi, Tingre Nagar, Kalas, Viman Nagar and Yerawada, and functions across Pune.

Can you cover all three?

Yes, and as one block.

Which areas do you cover?

Dhanori, Lohegaon, Vishrantwadi, Tingre Nagar, Kalas, Viman Nagar and Yerawada.

Do you photograph the mehendi design?

Yes, and it is worth a few minutes once finished.

Is your equipment safe at a haldi?

It is planned for. Getting close is the job.

Can you cover two venues?

Yes. Send both addresses.

How do we book?

Send us the date and what you have in mind, and you get a clear quote for the coverage you actually need.

How soon do we receive the photographs?

Confirmed in writing at booking rather than left open.

Can you send a small set early?

Tell us at booking if it matters and we will prioritise it.

Do you travel outside Pune?

Yes, with travel agreed upfront before anything is booked.

Can we see examples before booking?

Yes. Tell us what you have in mind and we will show you work that matches it rather than a general portfolio.

Do you charge extra for travel within this area?

Travel is agreed upfront and confirmed in writing, so there is nothing to discover afterwards.

Can we speak to you before deciding?

Yes, and it is usually the fastest way to work out what you actually need.

How do we share the photographs afterwards?

You get an online gallery you can share, and tell us if prints or an album are wanted.

Send all three dates

And where each one is happening. Consecutive functions plan far better as a block.
