A home maternity session is built around one window, and most flats have exactly one worth using.

Standard layouts give you a balcony door or a living-room window that does all the work, and very little else.

That is not a constraint worth fighting. A single soft source is what most maternity photography wants anyway, and working within a few feet of it produces better results than dragging lights around a flat trying to make three rooms viable.

What it does mean is that the direction the flat faces decides the hour. East-facing wants morning, west-facing wants late afternoon, north-facing is usable most of the day and never dramatic. Telling us which before we schedule saves a session shot at the wrong time.

It also puts more weight than usual on what you wear, because the setting is not going to vary much. Clothing is the main variable available, and it is worth deciding before the day rather than during it.
