An outdoor party needs a plan B

A children's party outdoors is lovely and it is a plan with one point of failure.

The date cannot move, the guests are invited, and the party happens indoors instead if the weather says so.

The families who handle this well decide in advance what the indoor version looks like, rather than improvising it while thirty people arrive.

That matters for the photographs because an improvised indoor party is usually crammed into a room chosen for its availability rather than its light.

Ten minutes of thought beforehand — which room, where the cake goes, where people can stand — makes the fallback almost as good as the plan.
