Birthday coverage in Hadapsar — including the gap between what the parents want photographed and what the child wants.

Parents and child differ

Once a child is old enough to have opinions, they usually differ from their parents.

Parents want the decorations, the family photographs and a nice portrait. The child wants to be left alone to play.

Both are entirely reasonable and the conflict is real. A child pulled away from their own party for photographs is a child who resents the photographer.

The workable answer is to get anything requiring cooperation done in the first twenty minutes, before the party absorbs them.

After that they are left alone, and the rest of the coverage happens without asking them for anything.

It is worth telling the child what will happen rather than surprising them, particularly from about five years old.

A child who has been told there will be two minutes of photographs at the start is far more cooperative than one who is grabbed mid-game.

There is usually a disagreement between the parents about scale that shapes everything else.

One wants something small at home; the other wants a proper party. What gets booked is a compromise, and the coverage should suit whichever it actually ended up being.

A small home party photographed as though it were a large event looks thin, and the reverse looks chaotic.

It is also worth agreeing which of you the photographer should ask on the day.

At a party both parents are busy and being asked things constantly, and a photographer adding to that is not helping.

One name, decided beforehand, and everything else is handled without interrupting anybody.

Getting ready

Getting cooperation early

Plan anything needing the child's cooperation for the first twenty minutes, before the party absorbs them.

Tell the child what will happen rather than surprising them mid-game.

Send three or four names of people who must appear in a photograph.

Our child hates being photographed.

Then everything needing them happens in the first twenty minutes and they are left alone after that.

Should we tell them beforehand?

Yes, from about five years old. A child who was told is far more cooperative than one grabbed mid-game.

Which areas do you cover?

Hadapsar, Magarpatta City, Keshav Nagar, Mundhwa, Ghorpadi, Wadgaon Sheri and Kharadi.

Can you cover a party at home?

Yes. Tell us which rooms and how many people.

Do you photograph the games?

Yes, and they produce the best candids.

Our venue has a fixed end time.

Then group photographs move earlier.

Photo and video?

Tell us at booking, since they compete during the cake.

What if we cannot agree at all?

Then tell us both positions and we will shoot both. We will say honestly what each produces; we will not tell you which your family should prefer.

Should everybody be on the call when we book?

It helps for anything with several stakeholders. Failing that, send us what each person is hoping for and we will work from that.

Who should we nominate for the day?

One person, agreed beforehand. Requests from everybody are welcome at the start; instructions from four people mid-session mean less gets photographed.

How do we book?

Send us the date and what you have in mind, and you get a clear quote for the coverage you actually need.

Get cooperation in the first twenty minutes

After that the child is left alone, and everybody has a better afternoon.
