One booked, one agreed
That is fine and it is worth naming, because the person who agreed rather than suggested behaves differently in front of a camera.
They tend to be watchful, slightly performative, and waiting for it to be over, all of which is visible.
The thing that fixes it is not encouragement. It is a clear end point and a short session, so there is nothing to endure.
An hour with a definite finish is much easier to be relaxed in than an open-ended afternoon.
It also helps enormously to be told which of you is which, so we are not misreading reluctance as dislike of the photographs.
Sessions handled this way tend to end with the reluctant person surprised at how little of a production it was.
It is worth asking, gently, whether the person who was less keen has an actual objection or simply finds it awkward.
Those need different handling. Awkwardness passes within ten minutes; an actual objection does not and should be listened to.
Most of the time it is the first, and knowing that lets the session start without anybody treading carefully.
It is also worth agreeing what happens with the results if one of you likes them and the other does not.
That is a real possibility and it is much easier discussed lightly beforehand than seriously afterwards.
Usually the answer is that both of you have to be happy, which is a perfectly good standard.
Getting ready
Tell us which of you suggested this. It changes how the session runs rather than being a problem.
Agree a clear finish time. A definite end point is what makes it easy to relax into.
Wear what you actually wear. One change each is plenty.

How the session itself works is covered in full on the main couple photography page.
Very common. Tell us which of you is which and the session runs accordingly.
A short session with a clear end point works better than encouragement. Most people are surprised how little of a production it is.
About an hour, deliberately.

No.
Nobody can. You get gentle direction throughout.
Yes, if the light works.
Then tell us both positions and we will shoot both. We will say honestly what each produces; we will not tell you which your family should prefer.
It helps for anything with several stakeholders. Failing that, send us what each person is hoping for and we will work from that.
One person, agreed beforehand. Requests from everybody are welcome at the start; instructions from four people mid-session mean less gets photographed.
Send us the date and what you have in mind, and you get a clear quote for the coverage you actually need.
It changes how the session runs, and it is not a problem — it is just useful to know.
