Most couple sessions are booked for an anniversary. A fair number here are booked for a photograph.

Somebody sees a set they like and wants one of their own. That is a perfectly good reason and it makes for a straightforward brief.

It also makes the session easier to plan than an occasion-driven one, because there is no date dictating the light. If the look you want needs late afternoon in a particular kind of setting, we can simply do it then rather than working around an anniversary that falls on a Tuesday in monsoon.

What it does need is a conversation about what specifically appealed. Almost always the answer is the light or the mood rather than the poses, and once that is clear there are several routes to it — which is fortunate, because copying poses tends to produce photographs of two people copying poses.

Beyond that it stays deliberately low-key. Gentle direction so nobody is left guessing what to do, and an hour that produces photographs looking like you rather than like a production.
