Family sessions in Keshav Nagar — what actually happens, for families who have never arranged one.

Nobody knows how to do this

Almost nobody arrives at a family session knowing what is expected of them.

People assume there is a right way to stand and that everybody else already knows it. There is not, and they do not.

You are arranged and directed throughout, in small groups first and then together, and the whole thing takes less time than most families expect.

What you genuinely need: everyone in the same place, roughly coordinated clothing, and about an hour.

What you can skip: buying matching outfits, a professional location, rehearsing anything, and any expectation that children will cooperate. They do not, and it does not matter.

Coordinated clothing means a shared palette rather than a uniform. Three shades that sit together is enough, and it is the one preparation worth doing.

It is also worth saying that not everybody enjoys this, and that is fine. A relative who would rather not be photographed can be included in the group and left out of everything else.

It is worth asking how long everyone has to stand still for, because that is the fear underneath most reluctance.

The answer is a few seconds at a time. Nobody is held in position, and the arrangements are built quickly rather than sculpted.

Elderly relatives are seated, children are allowed to move, and the whole session is shorter than the getting-ready was.

It is also worth knowing that not everyone has to be in every photograph.

Somebody who would rather not be photographed can be in the group frame and left out of everything else, and nobody has to make an issue of it.

Saying so beforehand is easier than negotiating it in front of the family.

Getting ready

What you actually need

Everyone in one place, at a time agreed a day early and slightly earlier than you need.

A shared colour palette rather than matching outfits. Three shades that sit together is plenty.

About an hour. It takes less time than most families expect.

Planning it

What you can skip

Buying anything new. Clothes people already own and feel comfortable in photograph better.

Rehearsing or planning arrangements. You are directed throughout.

Expecting the children to cooperate. They will not, and it genuinely does not matter.

We do not know how to pose.

Nobody does. You are arranged and directed throughout, and everyone assumes everybody else knows what they are doing.

Should we buy matching outfits?

No. A shared palette of two or three shades is plenty and clothes you already own work better.

Our children will not cooperate.

They rarely do, and it does not matter. Some of the best frames come from exactly that.

Which areas do you cover?

Keshav Nagar, Mundhwa, Kharadi, Hadapsar, Koregaon Park, Wadgaon Sheri and Viman Nagar.

How many people can be photographed?

Tell us the number and we will suggest indoors or out.

Some relatives cannot stand long.

Say so at booking. Seated arrangements happen first.

Can we do this at home?

Yes, for smaller groups.

Is there a question we should be asking that we have not?

Ask what happens if things do not go to plan, and what you can safely skip preparing. Those two get people further than anything else.

Can we visit the studio before booking?

Please do. Seeing the space beforehand settles most of the uncertainty, and it is welcome rather than an imposition.

What if we need less than we thought?

Then we will say so. Everything is quoted for the coverage you actually need rather than from a fixed list.

How do we book?

Send us the date and what you have in mind, and you get a clear quote for the coverage you actually need.

Nobody knows how to do this

You are directed throughout. A shared colour palette is the only preparation worth doing.
