Photographer in Koregaon Park, Pune

More of what we photograph here happens in somebody else’s room than anywhere else we work — a hired space, a booked venue, a business that is open while you are in it. That changes what has to be settled first, and it is rarely the photography.

The question that comes first

Whose room is it, and what have they agreed to?

Almost every good-looking location around here belongs to somebody. A courtyard, a terrace, a garden, a frontage, a function room. Each of those has an owner, and most owners have a view about photography on their premises.

We cannot tell you what any particular place allows. It varies between properties, it varies with who is on duty, and it changes. Nobody can tell you honestly without asking, and a photographer who claims otherwise is guessing.

What we can do is tell you exactly what to ask, and there are usually only three or four questions. Whether photography is permitted at all. Whether a quieter hour would suit them better. Whether the space is private or shared while you are in it. And what time it stops being yours.

Asked a week out, the answer is frequently yes, sometimes yes at a particular time, and occasionally no. All three of those are workable. The only version that is not is the one where nobody asked and you find out on the day, dressed, with the light going.

There is a second question underneath it, which is other people. A space that is trading has customers in it, and they have not agreed to appear in your photographs. We do not photograph people who have not agreed — and where images are going anywhere public, that is planned into the framing rather than filtered out afterwards, because filtering afterwards tends to remove the best frames.

And for a good number of sessions none of this applies at all. Newborn, maternity, portrait and most product work happen at home or at the studio, where the only people in the room are the ones you invited.

What we photograph

Grouped by whose permission is needed

Every service below has a Koregaon Park page of its own. The grouping depends on where you hold it — a birthday at home needs nobody’s permission at all.

Nobody's but yours

At home or at the studio. No venue, no access window and nobody else in the room — which removes the entire planning layer that shapes almost everything else here.

The venue's

A booked room, a hired space or a private garden. What matters is when the room is actually yours, what may happen in it, and what time it stops being yours.

The venue's and everyone else's

Spaces that are trading while you are in them. Other people are present, and anything published has to be clean of those who did not agree to appear in it.

Koregaon Park and the areas around it

We photograph across Koregaon Park — in hired rooms and private spaces, on location where access has been agreed, and at the studio in Wadgaon Sheri when a session is better off with nobody else’s rules attached to it.

The neighbouring areas are the same short journey: Mundhwa, Ghorpadi, Kalyani Nagar, Yerawada and Viman Nagar. We take bookings across the rest of Pune, and travel beyond it for weddings.

If a venue is involved, tell us which kind of space it is and we will tell you what to ask them — it is usually three or four questions and it takes a message. There is no fixed package: tell us what you need and you get a clear quote for that coverage.

Do we need permission to be photographed at a venue?

For anywhere privately held, usually yes — and it is their decision rather than ours or yours. We cannot tell you what any particular place allows, because it varies and it changes. What we can do is tell you exactly what to ask them, which takes a message.

What happens if we just turn up?

Often nothing. Occasionally you are asked to stop halfway through, which is an expensive way to spend an afternoon when everyone is dressed and the light is right. A week beforehand it is a two-minute conversation with three possible answers, and all three are workable.

Will other customers end up in our photographs?

Not in anything that reads as a portrait — we do not photograph people who have not agreed to it. In a shared space a wide frame may contain other people incidentally, which is worth knowing beforehand, particularly if the images are going anywhere public.

Our images are for marketing. Does that change anything?

Considerably. Anything published needs to be clean of people who did not consent, and that is much easier planned into the framing than filtered out afterwards — filtering afterwards tends to remove the best frames.

Is the studio simpler?

For newborn, maternity, portrait and most product work, yes. It removes the permission question entirely and gives controlled light. The studio is in Wadgaon Sheri.

Which areas do you cover from here?

Koregaon Park, Mundhwa, Ghorpadi, Kalyani Nagar, Yerawada, Wadgaon Sheri and Viman Nagar are the closest, and we take bookings across the rest of Pune.

Tell us the venue and we will tell you what to ask

Usually three or four questions, and it takes a message. Asked a week out, almost every answer is workable — it is only the unasked version that is not.
