Arranged, not assumed
Courtyards, terraces, gardens, boutique frontages and hotel grounds are privately held, and a shoot that assumes access is a shoot with a fifty-fifty chance.
The failure mode is specific and expensive: a couple arrives dressed, with a photographer booked and a few hours of good light, and is asked to leave.
It happens regularly, and it happens because asking felt awkward or nobody was sure who to ask.
A week beforehand it is a two-minute conversation, and the answer is frequently yes, sometimes yes at a particular time, and occasionally no.
All three of those are workable. Only the unasked version is not.
It is worth knowing who to ask, because that is where most of these requests stall.
For a hospitality space it is usually whoever manages events rather than whoever is at the front desk, and for a private property it is the owner rather than a caretaker.
Asking the wrong person tends to produce a cautious no, which is not the same as an actual no.
Tell us where you have in mind and we will tell you who normally decides.
It is worth planning the order of locations around when each is quietest rather than what suits the route.
A place that is empty at four and busy at six should be shot at four, even if it means doubling back.
Couples usually plan geographically, which is efficient and frequently puts them somewhere crowded at exactly the wrong hour.
Getting ready
Ask every private location before the date is fixed. We will tell you what to ask and who usually decides.
Have a second location you are genuinely happy with.
Two outfits rather than four. Changes cost time out of the good light.
Planning it
Which locations you want and whether any of them have been asked.
How much time you actually have.
And what you want it to feel like, which points at a time of day.

For anything privately held, usually. Tell us where and we will tell you what to ask.
Then the fallback runs, which is why one is agreed in advance.
A couple of hours at the right end of the day beats a whole day at the wrong one.
Yes, across Maharashtra with travel agreed upfront.
Yes, throughout.
Fewer than you think.
Tell us and we will agree an alternative approach in advance.
Yes, and it is usually three or four questions. Tell us the kind of space and we will send them over so it can go in one message.
Ask them what they need and we will provide it. Venues asking for something in advance is normal rather than a problem.
For most sessions, yes, and it removes the permission question entirely. The studio is in Wadgaon Sheri.
Send us the date and what you have in mind, and you get a clear quote for the coverage you actually need.
If it helps, yes. Usually it is quicker for you to ask since it is your booking, and we will send you exactly what to ask.
Tell us as soon as you know either way. A confirmed fallback means a late no changes the location rather than the date.
Yes, and for newborn, maternity, portrait and most product work it is usually the simpler option.
Yes. Tell us what you have in mind and we will show you work that matches it rather than a general portfolio.
A two-minute conversation a week out. Left unasked, it is a fifty-fifty shoot.
