Two calendars that do not agree
Milestone photography assumes you can book the week your baby reaches the stage. A fixed travel date removes that assumption.
So there is a choice to make, and it is better made deliberately than by drift. Either the session is built around the stage and whoever is travelling misses it, or it is built around the date and we photograph whatever the baby happens to be doing that week.
Both are legitimate. A photograph of a baby three weeks before they crawl is still a photograph of that baby at that age, and families who chose the date over the stage rarely regret it. Families who waited for the perfect week and lost the visit usually do.
What does not work is booking for the stage and hoping the timing cooperates. Tell us which constraint is real and we will plan against that one rather than against both.
A milestone happens when it happens. A trip happens when the ticket says. Those two calendars rarely agree.

Where the date wins over the stage, it is worth photographing what the baby is genuinely doing rather than coaxing an approximation of the next milestone.
A baby propped into sitting before they can sit reads exactly as that, and it ages badly.
What they are actually doing that week is the truthful record, and in a year nobody will remember which stage it was supposed to be.
Getting ready
Decide which constraint is real before booking. Either the session is built around the stage, or around the date, and trying to satisfy both usually satisfies neither.
A plain outfit and a spare is the whole preparation. These are short sessions.
If you are building a set, mention what appeared last time so the sequence holds together.
Planning it
Whether the date or the stage is fixed, because we plan against the real one.
What your baby is currently doing, so the session photographs that rather than something aspirational.
And whether there will be further sittings.

How the session itself works is covered in full on the main baby milestone photography page.
Then we photograph what they are doing that week. It is still a record of that age, and it is better than a session that never happens.
Only if the date is genuinely flexible. If someone is travelling, the visit is usually the thing you cannot get back.
Yes, and it is worth it — the sequence is where the value is. Book them together if you can so they hold together.

Photograph the next one. A gap does not break the sequence.
Yes, and we would encourage it.
Send us the date and what you have in mind, and you get a clear quote for the coverage you actually need.
Confirmed in writing at booking rather than left open, which matters more when the date could not move.
Tell us at booking if it matters and we will prioritise a small set.
Yes, with travel agreed upfront before anything is booked.
Yes, and on a fixed date we would encourage it. A short conversation beforehand is what makes an immovable booking work.
We will tell you immediately rather than holding a tentative slot, so you have time to find an alternative.
Regularly. Ask rather than assuming it is too late — we would rather tell you honestly what is open.
The plan yes, the date rarely. Tell us what has changed and we will adapt the coverage around it.
