A record, or a set to share

A milestone series is usually made for the family rather than for an audience.

Which is worth saying because the sets people see online are almost always the ones somebody chose to publish, and they are not representative.

Most of these sequences are never shown to anybody outside the household, and they are none the worse for it.

If that is what you want, the series can be built entirely around what you will look at rather than what would present well.

That changes small things: fewer arranged frames, more of the child simply being at that stage, and no concern about whether the background is presentable.

If you do intend to share it, that is equally fine and worth saying, because it slightly changes what gets included.

Either way, nothing is used publicly by us without being asked first.

A series accumulates, which makes the sharing question slightly different from a single session.

Three sittings shared piecemeal reach three overlapping groups of people, and the combined audience is usually wider than anybody intended.

Deciding once, at the start, covers all of them and saves making the same decision repeatedly under slightly different circumstances.

It is also worth thinking about whether the child will one day have views about this.

They will, eventually, and a set kept within the family is one they can decide about themselves later.

That is not an argument against sharing. It is an argument for the decision being yours rather than accidental.
