A decision worth making

Parents increasingly want a say in where photographs of their children appear.

That has become a normal position rather than an unusual one, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a paragraph of small print.

Nothing from your session is used publicly by us unless you have said it can be. There is no assumption in either direction.

If you would rather the set stayed entirely private, say so and it does. You do not have to give a reason and nobody will ask for one.

If you are happy for some of it to be shown, it is worth being specific about which frames rather than agreeing in general.

The other half of it is your own sharing, which is entirely yours to decide but worth deciding deliberately.

Photographs of children circulate further and for longer than people expect, and a decision made once at the start saves revisiting it repeatedly.

A set shared today is still in other people's phones and accounts years later, well past the point where anybody remembers agreeing to anything.

That is not a reason for alarm and it is a reason to make the decision deliberately rather than by default.

It is also worth agreeing with your own family what they will do with what you send them.

Grandparents in particular share widely and proudly, and a short word beforehand is far easier than a conversation afterwards.

Most people simply have not thought about it and are perfectly happy to be told.
