A function gallery is seen by everybody who was at the function, and several who were not.
Which means the people in those photographs will look at them, notice how they appear, and remember it.
That is a reason to be a little careful rather than a reason to worry. Nobody minds a candid; people mind an unflattering candid circulated to forty relatives.
Practically it means the set is selected with the guests in mind as well as the family, which is a normal part of the work rather than a special request.
It also means it is worth telling us if anybody present would rather not be photographed at all.
That happens at most functions and it is entirely straightforward when known in advance.
Nothing from the function is used publicly by us without being asked first.
It is worth thinking about the guests who are photographed candidly rather than in the group frames.
Group photographs are consensual by definition; a candid of somebody mid-meal is not, and it is the kind of frame that gets noticed and remembered.
Leaving those out is not editing the truth of the day. It is the ordinary courtesy of not circulating something unflattering about somebody who came to celebrate.
It is also worth agreeing where the gallery will be shared before you share it.
A link forwarded into a large family group reaches people who were never invited to the function, which is usually fine and occasionally not.
Worth ten seconds of thought rather than none.

Tell us if anybody attending would rather not be photographed. It happens at most functions and is easy to work around.
Send a group photograph list, since those are what people look for afterwards.
Say when the room will be ready, so the decorations are photographed before guests arrive.

Yes, and no reason is needed. Nothing is used publicly by us without your say-so, and asking costs you nothing in what you receive.
Does asking for privacy change what we get?
No. The session and what you receive are identical. The only difference is that none of it appears anywhere else.
Can we change our minds later?
Tell us either way and we will act on it. It is much easier to agree privacy at the start than to withdraw something afterwards.
