Who sees them
If that is true for you, a photograph of your newborn does not circulate among strangers. It circulates among the people you will see at the lift on Monday.
Most parents are entirely happy with that and never think about it. Some are not, and they usually only realise once a set is already being shared.
It is worth a moment beforehand rather than afterwards, because it is easy to decide in advance and awkward to unwind later.
Practically it comes down to two things: whether you want any of these used publicly by us, and how you intend to share them yourself.
On the first, nothing is published without your say-so. Ask us to keep the whole set private and that is simply how it is handled.
On the second, that is entirely yours to decide, and it is worth deciding rather than defaulting.
It is worth deciding what happens to the set within your own family too, which sounds excessive and is the thing people most often wish they had thought about.
Photographs sent to one relative are frequently forwarded to several more, and a set that was meant for grandparents can reach a wide circle within a day.
Nobody does that maliciously. It simply happens unless somebody says otherwise, and saying otherwise once at the start is easy.
The other thing worth knowing is that we do not need to show your photographs to anybody in order to do this work.
Some photographers treat a portfolio as a condition of booking. It is not one here, and a request for privacy costs you nothing in what you receive.
That is worth saying plainly because people assume the opposite and hesitate to ask.
Getting ready
Decide whether you are happy for any of these to be used publicly by us. Nothing is, without your say-so.
Think about how you intend to share them yourself, since that is easier decided now than unwound later.
Everything else is the usual: a clear patch of floor near the brightest window, and your baby at a good hour.
Planning it
Whether the set stays private, which is a normal request and needs no explaining.
Which way the flat faces, so we know where the light will be.
And who else will be in the room.

Either. Home means nothing to pack; the studio gives controlled warmth and light.
Yes. Tell us numbers so the room is set up for it.
More than the photography needs. Feeding and settling take up most of it.
No. We use one corner of one room.
Yes, and no reason is needed. Nothing is used publicly by us without your say-so, and asking costs you nothing in what you receive.
No. The session and what you receive are identical. The only difference is that none of it appears anywhere else.
Tell us either way and we will act on it. It is much easier to agree privacy at the start than to withdraw something afterwards.
Send us the date and what you have in mind, and you get a clear quote for the coverage you actually need.
A normal request, and much easier decided now than unwound later.
