Pre-wedding photography has the shortest fashion cycle of anything we shoot.

Sets from five years ago are instantly identifiable as five years old, and it is almost never because of the couple.

It is the poses, the props and above all the treatment. Each of those moves quickly, and each fixes a set to the moment it was made.

That matters more here than elsewhere because these photographs frequently end up on a wall in a home the couple will live in for decades.

The version that lasts is quieter than the version that is fashionable: real light, real expressions, a location that is not doing all the work, and restrained editing.

The fashionable version is available and plenty of couples want it. We will shoot it and we will tell you plainly which elements are the ones that will look of their time.

That is a more useful answer than enthusiasm, and it costs us nothing to say.

It is worth being honest that the fashionable version is genuinely enjoyable to make and to receive.

Nobody regrets it in the first year, and plenty of couples are pleased with it for much longer than that.

The point is not to avoid it but to make sure the set also contains frames with nothing in them but the two of you.

Those are the ones that end up on a wall in ten years, and they cost twenty minutes of a shoot.

A set that is entirely produced has no such frames in it, which is the only real risk here.
