The second one
It is one of the most common things parents tell us, usually a year or two late: the first child has a full newborn set and the second has a handful of phone pictures.
Nobody decides this. It happens because the second newborn arrives into a house that already has a toddler in it, and the weeks that were free the first time are not free any more.
The practical answer is not a longer session. It is a session built to expect the older child rather than to work around them, which is a different thing and it changes how the hour is planned.
Sessions with a sibling present run in a specific order — the two children together first, while the older one is still interested, then the baby alone once they have lost interest and wandered off.
Done the other way round, which is the instinctive order, the older child is bored by the time you need them and the frames that matter most do not happen.
Something else changes the second time that nobody warns you about: you are far less anxious, and that shows in the photographs.
First-time parents watch the session. Second-time parents get on with it, and the frames of them holding the baby are noticeably more relaxed as a result.
It is one of the few genuine advantages of going second, and it is worth pointing out because most parents assume the first set will always be the better one.
There is a practical point about timing too. Second babies are frequently early, and families who booked to the day rather than to a window find themselves rescheduling.
Booking against the due date instead removes that entirely, and it costs nothing to do it that way round.
The other thing worth knowing is that the older child does not have to be present for the whole session. Twenty minutes at the start is usually all that is wanted, and it goes better than an hour would.
Getting ready
Tell us there is an older child, and their age. It changes the running order rather than simply adding a person to the room.
Have somebody available whose only job is the older child. Not for the whole session, just for the stretch after their part is done.
Do not tidy for the session the way you did the first time. There is no time and it is not what makes the photographs work.
Planning it
Whether this is a first or a second, because they are genuinely different sessions.
The older child's age, which decides how the hour is ordered.
And whether you want the two of them together, which most parents want more than anything else and some forget to say.

How the session itself works is covered in full on the main newborn photography page.
Second sessions are usually shorter, because you know what you want and we are not explaining as we go.
No. Sessions with a sibling are planned around them rather than interrupted by them.
That is usually the frame parents want most. Say so at booking and it happens first, while the older one is still willing.
Then photograph this one. A gap in the record is not a reason to make it wider.

Either. With an older child at home there is more to manage but they are more comfortable.
Ask rather than assuming it is too late. Newborn windows are short and we would rather tell you honestly what is open.
Tell us if you have booked with us before and we will pull up what was done, so the new work builds on it rather than repeating it.
Yes, and it is usually easier. Tell us what is coming up over the next year and we will plan it together rather than piecemeal.
Then describe what you did not like about something you have seen. It is a faster route to the right answer than trying to specify it from scratch.
You get an online gallery you can share, and tell us if prints or an album are wanted.
That is the intention and it is most of the reason people come back. Tell us at booking that you have used us before.
No. Tell us you have booked before and we will work from what was done rather than starting from scratch.
Earlier is better for anything tied to a date. For everything else, ask and we will tell you honestly what is open.
Yes, across Maharashtra and for destination weddings, with travel agreed upfront before anything is booked.
Tell us that and the age of the older one. Those two facts shape the whole session.
