Not only on a phone

A record that exists only on a phone is one lost phone from not existing.

Most families photograph their children constantly and print nothing, which is fine right up until the moment it is not.

The practical risk is not sentimental. Phones are replaced, accounts lapse, backups are assumed rather than checked, and a decade of a childhood can sit in one place nobody has verified.

A professional session is worth treating differently from that, because it is the one set that was deliberately made rather than accumulated.

What that means for the session itself is small but real: a handful of frames composed to survive being printed, rather than everything shot for a screen.

The rest of the set can be exactly what it always is. It is one decision at the start, not a different session.

It is worth being specific about what surviving means, because people assume it means backing up and it does not.

Both usually come out of the same session; it is only a matter of making sure the second kind exists.
