Used, not just taken
Engagement photographs get used more than almost any other set we take.
They go on invitations, they get sent to relatives who could not come, and they are frequently the first photograph of the couple that the wider family ever sees.
That is a specific job, and it argues for a small number of properly composed frames alongside the coverage of the function.
The couple alone, both families together, and each set of parents with the couple. Those four do most of the work afterwards.
None of them arranges itself. The couple are surrounded from the moment they arrive, and the two families do not stand together unless somebody asks.
Ten minutes of arranging, decided in advance, is what separates a usable set from a complete one.
Where an image is going onto an invitation, the practical constraint is usually text rather than shape.
A frame with the couple filling it leaves nowhere for names and a date, and adding space around it later is not possible.
Told in advance, we leave room deliberately in a few frames while shooting the rest normally.
It costs nothing on the day and it is the single most common reason an engagement photograph cannot be used on the card.
It is also worth knowing whether the photographs will be printed or only shared, because that changes how much room the frames need.
A printed card has a fixed shape and no flexibility. A message going round the family has neither constraint.
Where both are happening, it is a couple of extra frames rather than a different approach.
Getting ready

Protect half an hour before the function for couple portraits. That is where the usable frames come from.
Decide that both families will be photographed together, and tell someone senior on each side.

Yes, across Maharashtra and for destination weddings, with travel agreed upfront before anything is booked.

What if we change our mind about the use?
The use can change freely. What cannot change afterwards is whether the frame has room in it, which is the only reason we ask early.
