The one that gets printed
Newborn galleries stay on screens. Birthday galleries stay on screens. A family photograph, more often than any other, ends up framed somewhere in the house.
Which makes it the session where composition for a physical frame matters most, and where getting it wrong is least recoverable.
A group photographed tightly, with no space above or beside them, cannot be trimmed to fit a frame without cutting someone in half. Space is added while shooting or not at all.
The shape matters too. A wide arrangement of twelve people does not become an upright photograph later, and the wall you have in mind usually has a shape already.
None of this is complicated. It just has to be known before rather than discovered afterwards.
There is one more thing worth deciding, which is whether the photograph is of the family or of the people in it.
A frame arranged so everyone is visible and identifiable is a record. A frame arranged for how the group looks together is a picture. Both are legitimate and they are composed differently.
Most families want the second and ask for the first, and the gap between those two is where the disappointment usually sits.
Saying which you want takes a sentence and changes the whole arrangement.
It is worth allowing for the fact that a printed photograph is looked at differently from one on a screen.
People stand close to a frame on a wall and look at faces one at a time, which is why expressions matter more in a print than in a gallery where the eye moves quickly.
That is most of the argument for spending a few extra minutes on the group frame rather than treating it as the obligatory one before the relaxed shots.
Getting ready
Tell us if this is going to be printed, and roughly what shape the space is. Wide and upright are different photographs.
Work out who has joined the family since the last one, and make sure they are in it.
Agree clothes loosely as a group. A shared palette, nothing bought specially.
Planning it
Whether this ends up on a wall, and what shape that space is.
How many people, since that decides indoors or out.
And the ages of the oldest, because the running order follows from it.

How the session itself works is covered in full on the main family photography page.
Then tell us the shape of the space. It genuinely changes how the group is arranged.
Only if there is room in the frame to begin with, and that is decided while shooting.
Tell us the number and we will suggest indoors or out.
Vishrantwadi, Tingre Nagar, Dhanori, Kalas, Lohegaon, Yerawada and Viman Nagar.
Yes, and tell us in advance.
Say so at booking. Seated arrangements happen first.
Yes, for smaller groups.
Yes, and it is much cheaper than a second session. Tell us the list of uses and the framing covers all of them while everything is set up.
An online gallery you can share. Tell us if anything else is wanted and we will confirm what is possible.
You can decide the use later. What cannot be decided later is whether the frame has room in it, which is why it is worth mentioning at booking.
Yes, across Maharashtra and for destination weddings, with travel agreed upfront before anything is booked.
Yes, and it is the part we can speak to honestly — what a frame will and will not stand up to. Tell us what you have in mind.
The use can change freely. What cannot change afterwards is whether the frame has room in it, which is the only reason we ask early.
Yes. Tell us what you have in mind and we will show you work that matches it rather than a general portfolio.
Send us the date and what you have in mind, and you get a clear quote for the coverage you actually need.
Genuinely useful to know before the session. It decides how the group is arranged.
