Three days, one set

Three functions shot separately produce three galleries nobody views together.

Which is a shame, because the week is one continuous story and it reads far better as one.

Covered as a single body of work, the three functions balance each other — the mess of the haldi against the stillness of the mehendi against the noise of the sangeet.

Covered as three separate bookings, each is shot to be complete on its own, and the result is repetitive rather than cumulative.

Practically that means deciding in advance which function carries which part of the story, and not trying to make each one do everything.

It also means being honest about which matters most to your family, so the weight goes where people will actually look.

Covering three functions as one set also changes what gets repeated.

Shot separately, each function produces its own arrivals, its own group photographs and its own wide establishing frames, and the combined result is the same structure three times over.

Shot as one, those obligations are met once and the rest of the coverage can chase what is actually different about each day.

That is most of why the combined set reads better, and it is decided at booking rather than in the edit.

It is worth saying which frames from the three days are likely to be printed, if any.

Almost everything from these functions is shared and almost nothing is printed, which is fine — but where there is an exception it is worth flagging.

Usually it is one frame from the haldi, which is the function that produces the most striking colour of the whole week.
