It has a job to do
Unlike most sessions, these images are usually needed for something — an invitation, a screen at the reception, something sent to relatives.
Each of those has a shape. An invitation is often upright or square, a reception screen is wide, and a printed frame is whatever the frame is.
A shoot that produces only wide cinematic frames leaves you cropping into them for an upright invitation, which never works as well as shooting for it did.
It costs nothing to cover both while on location. It costs a great deal to discover the gap a week before the cards go to print.
So the useful question at booking is not only where and when, but what these are for.
Resolution is worth raising where anything is going to print, because it is the one requirement that cannot be worked around afterwards.
A frame that will be enlarged has to be shot with that in mind, and heavy cropping is what quietly removes the option.
If you know something is going large, say so and those frames are kept clean.
Where nothing is going to print, none of this matters and the shoot is planned entirely around what looks best.
It is worth agreeing which images can be used publicly and which cannot, and doing it before rather than after.
Couples frequently have views about this that nobody thinks to ask, and it is far easier to settle at booking than to unpick later.
Tell us at the outset and it is confirmed in writing with everything else.
Getting ready
Tell us what the images are needed for — invitation, screen, print — because each wants a different shape.
Tell us the deadline if there is one, since it may be the tightest constraint in the whole booking.
Two outfits rather than four. Changes cost time out of the good light.
Planning it
What the images are actually for.
Whether anything has a print deadline.
And how much time you genuinely have on the day.

How the session itself works is covered in full on the main pre-wedding photography page.
Tell us the shape it has to be. Cropping into a wide frame for an upright card rarely works well.
Say so at booking. It is often the tightest constraint in the whole plan.
A couple of hours at the right end of the day beats a whole day at the wrong one.

Yes, throughout.
Fewer than you think.

Yes, and it is much cheaper than a second session. Tell us the list of uses and the framing covers all of them while everything is set up.
An online gallery you can share. Tell us if anything else is wanted and we will confirm what is possible.
You can decide the use later. What cannot be decided later is whether the frame has room in it, which is why it is worth mentioning at booking.
Yes, and it is the part we can speak to honestly — what a frame will and will not stand up to. Tell us what you have in mind.
The use can change freely. What cannot change afterwards is whether the frame has room in it, which is the only reason we ask early.
Yes. Tell us what you have in mind and we will show you work that matches it rather than a general portfolio.
Send us the date and what you have in mind, and you get a clear quote for the coverage you actually need.
Invitation, screen or wall — each wants a different shape, and it is decided on the day.
