Architect Portfolio Photography in Pune

A practice portfolio is judged as a whole. If five projects were shot by five different people over ten years, it shows — and it undercuts work that deserves better.

What to expect

A body of work presented consistently.

  • One consistent treatmentThe same approach to light, framing and grade across every project.
  • Publication-ready outputPrepared to the file standards journals and competitions ask for.
  • Back-catalogue as well as new workOlder buildings can be rephotographed to bring the whole portfolio in line.

A portfolio is judged as one thing

Nobody assesses a practice project by project. They scroll the whole portfolio in a couple of minutes and form a single impression of it.

Which means five projects photographed by five different people over ten years does not read as five projects. It reads as an inconsistent practice, and it drags good work down to the level of the weakest set in the sequence.

The fix is not better individual photographs. It is one consistent treatment applied across everything.

This matters more for architects than for most other professions, because the work itself is judged partly on rigour. A portfolio that looks assembled rather than authored undercuts exactly the quality the practice is trying to demonstrate.

What consistency actually consists of

The same approach to light, the same framing conventions, the same relationship to verticals, the same colour and tone across every project. Individually invisible; collectively the difference between a portfolio and a folder.

It also means the same decisions about people, about time of day, and about how much context is included. A portfolio where half the buildings are empty at dawn and half are full at noon does not hold together no matter how well each was shot.

Where a practice has a house style — a preference for people or their absence, for a particular kind of weather, for context or isolation — that gets established once and applied throughout rather than decided again on each shoot.

Bringing the back catalogue into line

Older projects can be rephotographed, and it is often the highest-value work a practice can commission, because it lifts the whole sequence rather than adding one project to the end of it.

Buildings change, of course. Ten years of occupation, weathering and alteration mean an older project photographs as it is now rather than as it was handed over. Sometimes that is better — planting has matured and the building has settled into its site. Sometimes it means agreeing what can honestly be shown.

Files for print, journals and competitions

Publications, journals and competitions have specific requirements — resolution, colour space, aspect ratio, whether people may appear, and often a limit on how many images may be submitted.

Files are prepared to those standards, and it saves considerable trouble to know the target before the shoot rather than after. A frame composed without knowing it would need to crop to a fixed ratio usually crops badly.

Shooting to a competition brief

Competition submissions are a different exercise again. They are read quickly, by people looking for a specific argument, and the image set has to make that argument in a defined number of frames.

That is worth planning as a set rather than assembling from existing photographs. Send the brief and the submission requirements, and the shoot can be built to answer them directly.

The same applies to award submissions and to journal features. Each has its own conventions about what may be shown and how, and none of them are difficult to work to when they are known in advance.

Before you book

Architect portfolios, answered

Straight answers on scope, access and what you actually receive. Anything else, just ask — we would rather explain it now than have you guess.

Can you rephotograph older projects?

Yes, provided we can still get access.

Do you supply files for print?

Yes, at the resolution and colour profile required.

Can you shoot to a competition brief?

Yes, if you send the requirements in advance.

What does architect portfolios photography cost in Pune?

It depends on the scale of the building, how many exterior and interior frames are needed, and whether the shoot runs across more than one visit. We do not publish a fixed price because no two are the same. Tell us what you have in mind and we will come back with a clear quote — nothing hidden in the small print.

Why does consistency matter across a portfolio?

Because nobody assesses a practice project by project. They scroll the whole portfolio in a couple of minutes and form one impression, so five projects shot by five people over ten years reads as an inconsistent practice.

What does a consistent treatment actually involve?

The same approach to light, framing and verticals, the same colour and tone, and the same decisions about people, time of day and how much context is included. Individually invisible, collectively the difference between a portfolio and a folder.

Do you work to a practice house style?

Yes. If you have a preference — people or their absence, a particular kind of weather, context or isolation — it is established once and applied throughout rather than decided again each shoot.

How long does rephotographing a back catalogue take?

It depends how many projects and how far apart they are. Tell us which matter most and we will look at what is realistically achievable before anything is booked.

Should people appear in portfolio images?

It is a house-style decision worth making once and applying throughout. Publications frequently want frames without people, so where both are wanted, both are shot.

Can you photograph projects outside Pune for our portfolio?

Yes. Travel is agreed in writing beforehand, and grouping several projects into one trip is usually more efficient than booking them separately.

How do I choose a photographer for my architecture portfolio?

Ask whether they will photograph the idea or the object. A portfolio set has to show what the practice was trying to do — sequence, light, scale — which means shooting the approach and the transitions, not only the finished elevation. Agree publication rights first.
