School & College Event Photography in Pune

A school event is the most rigidly scheduled thing we photograph. Item follows item, nothing waits, and a performance that took a term to rehearse lasts four minutes and is never repeated.

So the running order matters more here than anywhere. Send it in advance with the order of items, roughly how long each runs, and which ones matter most to the school. With that we are in position before each item starts instead of arriving during it.

Flag the moments that carry weight — the chief guest arriving, the prize distribution, a particular class item, the principal’s address. Those are the frames that go in the newsletter and on the website.

Auditoriums are lit for an audience, which means coloured stage lighting, deep shadow at the edges and a light level that changes between items. It is a technical problem rather than a creative one and it is solved by knowing the venue beforehand.

The other constraint is position. Moving across the front of a hall during a performance is disruptive, so positions are worked out in advance and we move between items rather than during them.

Group items need a wide frame that actually shows the whole line, and every child needs to be identifiable somewhere in the set. That second point is what parents judge the photographs on, and it is the one most often missed.

Sports day is the opposite problem — bright, fast, spread over a large ground, and running on its own timetable. It wants anticipation rather than reaction: being at the finish line before the race ends rather than following it.

Track events, field events, the march past, the prize podium and the parents on the sidelines all get covered. So do the moments between events, which is where most of the character is.

Weather is the planning risk. Tell us the date and we will talk through what happens if it moves, because a sports day that shifts by a week should move the booking rather than lose it.

Convocation has one moment that must not be missed, repeated once per student: the certificate handed over on stage. Everything else on the day is secondary to getting every one of those cleanly.

That needs a fixed position, the right lens and an agreement on where students walk from and to. It also needs to know roughly how many are graduating, because that changes the pacing entirely.

Around it sit the frames families actually print — students with parents, groups of friends, the robes and caps, the campus itself. Those are worth allowing time for after the ceremony rather than squeezing in before it.

Photographs of minors are not like other event photography. The school needs to have permission from parents, and there are usually children whose families have asked that they not appear anywhere public.

Tell us before the day if there are children who must be excluded from published images. It is far easier to handle at the shoot than to unpick from a delivered set, and getting it wrong is a genuine problem for the school rather than an inconvenience.

Agree the usage too — newsletter, website, social media, prospectus or internal only are different permissions, and it is worth having that settled in writing before anything is published.
